Dr. Abel earned his B.S. from the State University of New York at Buffalo, and his M.Ed. and his Ed.D. in Leadership from Virginia Commonwealth University. This is his 30th year in education and his 24th year at Midlothian. Dr. Abel has served as a technology coordinator (3 years), math and computer science teacher (6 years), and assistant principal (7 years) before becoming the principal at Midlothian High School, which he has served for the past 14 years. His responsibilities include:
Operates total school program
Plans and administers school budget
Serves as Parent Teacher Student Organization (PTSO) liaison
Co-coordinates athletics and activities with Director of Student Activities (DSA)
Co-coordinates development and implementation of master schedule
Develops faculty handbook and coordinates duty roster
Develops, implements, and analyzes School Improvement and Innovation Plan (SIIP)
Supervises staff, student, and community recognition
Supervises the School Counseling department and front office clerical staff
Co-coordinate school-based professional development and learning
Supervise facilities
