Dr. Abel earned his B.S. from the State University of New York at Buffalo, and his M.Ed. and his Ed.D. in Leadership from Virginia Commonwealth University. This is his 31st year in education and his 25th year at Midlothian. Dr. Abel has served as a technology coordinator (3 years), math and computer science teacher (6 years), and assistant principal (7 years) before becoming the principal at Midlothian High School, which he has served for the past 15 years.  His responsibilities include:

• Operates total school program

• Plans and administers school budget

• Serves as Parent Teacher Student Organization (PTSO) liaison

• Co-coordinates athletics and activities with Director of Student Activities (DSA)

• Co-coordinates development and implementation of master schedule

• Develops faculty handbook and coordinates duty roster

• Develops, implements, and analyzes School Improvement and Innovation Plan (SIIP)

• Supervises staff, student, and community recognition

• Supervises the Administration team, School Counseling department and front office administrative support staff

• Co-coordinate school-based professional development and learning

Dr. Mooney grew up outside of Buffalo, NY. She received her BSED and MSED from SUNY Geneseo prior to completing her EDD in Educational Leadership at the University of Rochester. Dr. Mooney taught Math and Special Education in upstate New York prior to beginning her administrative career in Virginia.  At Osborn Park High School in Prince William County, she served as Assistant Principal for five years before moving to Chesterfield County and joining CCPS. As a member of the CCPS team, she has served as an Associate Principal at Matoaca and Midlothian High Schools. She has been with Midlothian High School since 2019.

She earned her M.Ed. in Administration and Supervision at the University of Virginia. Before becoming an administrator, Ms. Jones taught English and Dual Enrollment Composition and Literature.

Mr. Keelan earned his B.S in Biology and M.A in Teaching, both from James Madison University. Mr. Keelan comes to Midlothian High School from Virginia Beach, where he spent his first eight years in education as a Biology and AP Biology Teacher.

Mr. Steele earned his BA in Geography from Emory and Henry College and his Teaching Certifications through ODU. This is his 11th year in education and his 9th year at Midlothian. Before becoming an administrator, Mr. Steele taught social studies and coached football. He also served as the Outside Facilities Coordinator and Assistant AD.

Dr. Speller earned her B.A. in English Education and M.Ed. in Counselor Education from The Virginia State University, and earned her Ph.D. in Organizational Leadership from Liberty University. This is her 20th year in education and her eighth at Midlothian.

Mr. Jones earned his B.A. in Political Science from the University of Mary Washington, and his M.S. in Secondary Education from Old Dominion University. This is his twenty-seventh year in education, and fifth at Midlothian High School. In addition to his work at Midlothian High School, Mr. Jones currently serves as an IB Psychology Examiner and IB Workshop Leader for the International Baccalaureate Organization, and is the Past-President of the Mid-Atlantic Association of IB World Schools.

• Serves as pedagogical leader of the IB Diploma Programme

• Coordinates annual recruitment of students to pursue the IB Diploma.

• Designs and implements IB programme events, such as the IB Graduate Ceremony.
