Dr. Shawn Abel, Principal

Dr. Abel earned his B.S. from the State University of New York at Buffalo, and his M.Ed. in Leadership and his Ed.D. from Virginia Commonwealth University. This is his 27th year in education and his 21st year at Midlothian. Before becoming a principal, Dr. Abel taught math.

Dr. Stefanie Mooney, Associate Principal

Dr. Mooney grew up outside of Buffalo, NY. She received her BSED and MSED from SUNY Geneseo prior to completing her EDD in Educational Leadership at the University of Rochester. Dr. Mooney taught Math and Special Education in upstate New York prior to beginning her administrative career in Virginia.  At Osborn Park High School in Prince William County, she served as Assistant Principal for five years before moving to Chesterfield County and joining CCPS. As a member of the CCPS team, she has served as an Associate Principal at Matoaca and Midlothian High Schools. She has been with Midlothian High School since 2019.

Leslie Jones, Assistant Principal

Ms. Jones earned her B.A. in Government and International Politics and her M.A. in English from George Mason University. She is pursuing an M.Ed. in Administration and Supervision at the University of Virginia. Ms. Jones has been an educator for ten years and taught English and Dual Enrollment Composition and Literature before becoming an administrator.

Steve Lagow, Assistant Principal

Mr. Lagow earned his B.A. in Political Science from James Madison University and his M.A. in Special Education and M.A. in Administration from the University of Phoenix. He has been with Midlothian High School since 2019.

Stephanie Tavill, Dean of Students

Ms. Tavill earned her B.S. in Secondary Education from Northern Michigan University, an M.A. in Science Education from Western Governors University, and an M.Ed in Educational Leadership from the University of West Florida. Ms. Tavill has a decade of educational experience as a science teacher and CTE administrator. This is her first year at Midlothian.

Patrick Steele, Director of Student Activities

Mr. Steele earned his BA in Geography from Emory and Henry College and his Teaching Certifications through ODU. This is his 11th year in education and his 9th year at Midlothian. Before becoming an administrator, Mr. Steele taught social studies and coached football. He also served as the Outside Facilities Coordinator and Assistant AD.

Stuart Jones, IB Diploma Programme Coordinator

Mr. Jones earned his B.A. in Political Science from the University of Mary Washington, and his M.S. in Secondary Education from Old Dominion University. This is his twenty-second year in education, and first at Midlothian High School. In addition to coordinating the IB program, Mr. Jones also teaches IB Psychology.

Kaitlyn Stoneburner, Coordinator of Special Education and Transition Planning

Ms. Stoneburner earned her B.S. in Human Development from Virginia Tech and her M.A.T. in Special Education as well as her M.Ed. in Administration and Supervision from Liberty University. This is her 7th year in education and her second at Midlothian.

Mrs. Phillips earned her B.S. in Psychology with a minor in Biology from Virginia Tech. She previously worked as an Internal Auditor while living in Atlanta, GA, and this is her second year with CCPS.
